Into The WIld Blog #5

Positive:
1. He didn't let anybody talk him out of things.
2. He was smart.
3. He was good at making friends.
Negative
1. He was competitive.
2. He was in a way selfish.
3. He was stubborn.

By Chris not letting anyone talking him out of things, he almost always succeeded. The only thing he should have done was not go to Alaska, like most people tried to talk him out of. Chris was smart at most things, the only thing he wasn't smart at was keeping money, he donated all his savings to charity and burnt all the money in his wallet. Chris was unique and it helped him greatly, at making new friends. Many people liked Chris because he was different, in a good way. He was very competitive, which wasn't always a good thing. when he lost meaningless things, he would freak out and act like he just lost everything in his life. Chris was selfish, i feel like he knew he was going to die if he went to Alaska, he went anyways. Chris was very stubborn, he never did what he was asked to, i mean he did sometimes, but not all the time.

I believe Chris took the job at McDonald's because it his something he wouldn't have done in his old life. Plus, I believe that it was just an easier way to earn money, and maybe something he would be very good at, compared to the other worker that are there.
The workers that worked with Chris at Mcdonalds said that he was a slower person, that he always took his time with cooking, even during lunch hour. If I worked with Chris at McDonalds, I probably would think he was weird at first, but when I got to know him appreciated him more.
Jan and Bob Burres liked Chris, they got along well with him. I believe they all got along because they all had something similar to them and they may not have benn exactly like them but they were similar.
I believe Franz was the most affected by Chris McCandless because he practicall changed his whole life just because of him.

The note kind of says that he wasn't really close to them anymore. I had not much of a reaction to this letter but, how could you not miss them and want to return home. I think his intentions at this time was to just get away and not think about his past life. I agree with him inn some ways, by just wanting to get away, but i don't know if I could stay away from my family.

His motivation probably is just tired of people and their crap. I don't understand why he gave all of the money away, maybe half of it would have done enough, but it was his choice.

Into the Wild Blog #2

I feel that Chris McCandless was well aware that he didn’t have enough survival gear, but I think he was challenging himself by not being fully prepared. In my opinion I believe that he knew he wasn’t going to make it out alive of the wilderness. I mean he only had a ten-pound bag of rice, cheap hiking boots, and a 22-caliber riffle. That’s not going to last him a while, especially in Alaska. I’m still not sure why he didn’t accept the free gear he got offered by Gallien. I figured this is just another way of committing suicide without actually killing yourself. I don’t like the way Jon Krakauer started out the story by saying he died. I like stories that have suspense. It would have been better if he would have the stories and then at the end reveal that he had died. It makes me kind of not want to finish the story because the ending is ruined. When I first read the quote “S.O.S I NEED YOUR HELP. I AM INJURED, NEAR DEATH, AND TOO WEAK TO HIKE OUT OF HERE. I AM ALL ALONE, THIS IS NO JOKE. IN THE NAME OF GOD, PLEASE REMAIN TO SAVE ME. I AM OUT COLLECTING BERRIES CLOSE BY AND SHALL RETURN THIS EVENING. THANK YOU, CHRIS MCCANDLESS, AUGUST?” I felt like he just wrote this to make it seem like he didn’t want to die. But really he was tired of the world and this was his only way of leaving the world “selfishly”.

Into the Wild Blog #1

I believe that Christopher Candles (Alex), from “Into the Wild” by Jon Krakauer, is a very brave person, and has to have a lot of courage for what he had done. He is probably the most amazing person I had ever heard of. Everyone should have courage like him, to just go out and hike to Alaska, which would probably never cross my mind in a million years. He should be rewarded for his braveness in a memorial site, or have more stories of him told. He finally made to Alaska, which to me is amazing! It is very weird how he just disappeared like that, but he probably had his reasons.  This book is a lot better than I had expected. McCandless must have truly connected with nature to be able to survive out there. He burned all the cash in his wallet, that would have taken me a lot of courage to even burn money, it’s just a waste, he could have given it to a homeless person who needed it, but it’s too late now. At least he donated $25,000 to charity. He could have sold his car for more money to donate, but I guess that wasn’t his intentions. I want to know what was going through his mind when he got up to leave, did he turn back for a split second, or did tell any of his friends? He is a very mysterious person.  At this point in the book, we haven’t really learned much about his personality except for the he is extremely daring. I feel like while he was in the wild, he was looking for a different person, like his inner self, and for a connection with nature. Some people go on adventures to find their inner self, and a lot of people find it, but some people need to try different things to find theirs.
